My first time at Frue Plads

Frue plads marked

What a lovely experience

On the weekend of August 7-9, I attended Frue Plads market for the very first time. I have visited the market many times as a guest over the years, but it was something very special to stand there myself – amidst the beautiful buildings, under the big trees and surrounded by so many skilled artisans.

I had packed the car to the brim with hand-woven scarves, tea towels and dishcloths – and put a lot of thought into how my stand would be decorated. I wanted to create a calm and simple atmosphere, so that the textiles and colours could speak for themselves. On the tables were stacks of linen and cotton in muted natural tones, browns and pinks and yellows from my latest collection.

Carsten had built the most beautiful ash wood stand for my scarves. It gave the stand a light and warm look – as if the wood and the textiles belonged together. Many people noticed it and asked where it came from, and I was so proud to say that it was handmade, just like everything else on the stand.

It was three intense and wonderful days. I met so many nice people – both customers, colleagues and curious passers-by who wanted to hear about weaving, materials and colors. Many stayed for a long time and felt the textiles, and I had many good conversations about weaving and textiles. So inspiring.

I was standing right across from weaver Anne Mette Larsen who won the Hand Bird – a prize that is awarded every year, and one of the requirements is that you are good at communicating. Anne Mette is a very skilled weaver and an absolutely fantastic communicator. Check her out: https://annemettelarsen.dk/

Copenhagen showed itself at its best with sun on the cobblestones, life and laughter all over the square and a light scent of coffee and summer in the air. When I packed up on Saturday afternoon, I was tired, sun-warmed and very happy. It was a great experience to be part of a market with such high quality and such a good atmosphere.

I wonder if we'll see each other next year?
